When I first saw the image for The Drama pop up on Instagram last night, I yelped. For a minute, I thought Zendaya and Robert Pattinson were a couple, about to get married, and this was how they were telling the world.
Then I remembered not to be stupid and read the caption (always read the caption!). At this point, I realised it was a promotional picture for the pair’s new film. A24, the ridiculously cool film studio behind Ladybird, Moonlight and Everything Everywhere All At Once, posted what looked like a wedding announcement in the Boston Globe but was in fact confirmation of the movie’s upcoming release on 3 April 2026.
Directed by Kristoffer Borgli (Dream Scenario), the film stars Zendaya and Pattinson as Emma Harwood, who works at Mission Books, and Charlie Thompson, the director of the Cambridge Art Museum. They’re a newly engaged couple, and the trailer opens with them having the world’s most uncomfortable photos taken (as someone who is overcome with awkwardness every time a camera comes near me, I relate). “Remember, you know each other really well,” says the photographer. “Smile naturally, like you would in real life.”
It’s clear that the pair are more than just camera shy, though, as an unexpected turn sends everything off the rails. A cosy romcom, this is not…
Happily, this isn’t the only time R-Patz and Zendaya will join forces in 2026. They’ll both star together in two other blockbusters: Dune: Part Three (alongside Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh and Anya Taylor-Joy) and Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of the Greek classic The Odyssey (alongside Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway and a man called Tom Holland).
While we wait for the Z-Patz alliance to dominate cinema next year (and the subsequent red carpet looks), we’ll be watching the trailer for The Drama.
