When The Devil Wears Prada was released in 2006, fans couldn’t get enough of the film that delved into the drama, ruthlessness and dry comedy of the fashion magazine’s world.
Twenty years later, and with a musical version in the West End (starring Ugly Betty’s Vanessa Williams as Miranda Priestly – I do love a glossy mag crossover), a sequel is officially in the works. And we don’t have too long to wait for its release: it’s due to arrive on screen next year.
With the original grossing over $326 million (£241m) worldwide and cementing itself as a fan favourite, a sequel will have a tough act to follow, but it’s one that we’re already excited for. Here’s everything you need to know about The Devil Wears Prada sequel so far.
As of yet, no plot details have been officially revealed. What we do know is that Aline Brosh McKenna, who wrote the original film, has been lined up to work on the sequel for Disney (via Deadline).
Variety reports the film will follow Priestly (Meryl Streep) as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and faces off against former assistant Emily (Emily Blunt), who is now a high-powered advertising executive with money that Priestly needs.
Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci were officially announced by Disney recently as returning to the franchise.
Tucci previously told Variety that he would be delighted to return to the role of art director Nigel. “I know they’re working on it,” he said. “If it happens, I would be so happy, but I cannot give you any information. Otherwise, I’ll go to the actor’s prison or something. [The original] was one of the best experiences ever.”
However, there is also a new addition: Oscar winner Kenneth Branagh is set to play Miranda Priestly’s husband. You may remember from the first film that Priestly confesses that all is not well with her partner…
Multiple outlets have confirmed the film will released on 1 May 2026. We wonder how many times we can rewatch the original before then?
