THE 1975'S MATTY HEALY 'NOT SLEEPING' AS HE SHARES GRIM REALITY OF MAKING NEW ALBUM

Fans of The 1975 might be waiting a little bit longer for new material. Matty Healy has now revealed he's not getting much sleep while creating their upcoming album, Dogs. The record, which follows their 2022 release, Being Funny in a Foreign Language, currently has no release date, but the band are hard at work.

However, while creating the record, Healy, 36, is also splitting his time by playing the 2025 shooter game, Arc Raiders. But on social media, he shared an update on the project.

In a subreddit, the musician said: "Hellooo I have been living in the studio and not sleeping much (happens I think normally one month a year) and after work playing Arc Raiders almost religiously. I've never had a game that's part of my life like an album or something it has become something I take quite seriously. Would be cool to play with you guys - any suggestions of how to do it without doxing my gamer tag and just blowing my s**t up? Loveeeee m x (sic)."

As last year grew to a close, Matty said his life would be hectic over the next two years, telling his Reddit followers: "Feeling very unc and very lucky to be in 1975 atm. Next two years looks mental (sic)."

Meanwhile, Matty's mum, Waterloo Road star Denise Welch, has heard the new material from her son's band and said that while it's very different to what the group have released in the past, fans will absolutely love the new record. She told the Daily Star last year: "It's fabulous. It's very different, but it's got the DNA of the 1975, I think you'll love it." Matty also confirmed the existence of two albums, one of which is called Dogs.

He told students during a Q+A session at Gateshead College in December: "We made two. It might be one, it might be two… but yeah, we've made two albums."

The Love Me group's manager, Dirty Hit label boss Jamie Oborne, told The Money Trench podcast: "They're making a record at the moment. I don't know when it will come out, but they're making one.

"I think they've earned the right to take their time. The world's gonna be listening, so it needs to be right." Oborne hinted that the LP is already sounding "pretty extraordinary".

In 2023, Matty revealed the band would embark on an "indefinite hiatus" from live shows after completing their mammoth Still… At Their Very Best tour in March 2024.

Performing at the Golden 1 Centre in Sacramento, California, he told the crowd: "It's wonderful you're all here. After this tour, we will be going on an indefinite hiatus with shows, so it's wonderful to have you guys with us tonight. Thank you so much."

Just weeks ago, the band shocked social media users and implied that they'd decided to call it a day. A comic was shared on their label's Instagram page, prompting people to question the group's future.

"Did you hear about The 1975?" asked a woman on the comic, as another responded: "Yeah, I'm shook up, man! I wanted that to last forever!!"

A man said: "Pay no attention babe – it's all just part of an act!" While another woman added: "No it ain't! The kid' (Matty) gone mad – loopy!" However, the band rolled out a similar comic as part of the promotion for their second album, I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware Of It. This month marks ten years of their second record, which featured tracks such as The Sand and Somebody Else.
