A house hunter, who appeared on A Place in the Sun with her husband, has opened up about her experience on the Channel 4 programme. Karen and Mark Morrall embarked on their search for a "modern" and spacious property in Spain back in August 2021, guided by presenter Lee Juggurnauth.
With a budget of £150,000, the couple viewed several properties in Torrevieja, Costa Blanca, but sadly none captured their hearts.
Looking back on their time filming, Karen said that while they appreciated the experience and found the production team "very polite and pleasant", they wouldn't repeat it.
She told us exclusively: "The crew had a schedule of places that they took us to, and we didn't really get any input into it. If we had, I wouldn't have chosen to go look at the Blue Lake and the Pink Lake. That was a bit of a waste of time.
"At the end of the day, Channel 4 are making a TV programme, they are not estate agents and don't really know a lot about the local area."
Detailing what went on behind the cameras, she described lengthy filming days that required spending hours in individual properties to capture "lots of takes".
She confessed that on one occasion, delays in accessing a house left her so "furious", she was tempted to abandon filming altogether.
"There's a lot going on behind the scenes. They have to get permission from the owners to film in the properties. So, if one property was perfect for you but they couldn't get permission to film there, then they wouldn't show it to you," she said.
"It was an experience, but we wouldn't do it again. We just had one day when they left us waiting in the car for a few hours because they couldn't gain entry to a property. I was furious and nearly walked. But it was an experience, and we're here now, living our best life," she continued, reports the Express.
Following their tour of the five properties, the pair informed Lee they'd be pressing ahead with their house hunt independently.
The presenter responded: "I'd love to know how you get on," while confessing he felt "gutted" their television appearance hadn't resulted in success.
Reflecting on the host, Karen revealed she knew little about him initially, but discovered he was "a nice guy". The couple have now found a villa they adore in San Miguel de Salinas, with assistance from a local property agent.
Lee, who came aboard the programme that same year, has also assisted British expats, including Neil and Sarah, in securing homes abroad.
Five years ago, the duo sold up to retire prematurely and signed up to the show as a springboard to locate their ideal overseas property.
Taking to their YouTube channel, 2GoRoam Travels, Neil opened up about his experience of filming alongside Lee, telling his audience: "Now, I know a lot of people, because I've spoken to a lot of people, have a certain view about Lee.
"They think he's a bit full of himself and not their favourite presenter. However, after spending considerable time with him, I can tell you he's completely different from what people might assume."
He went on to say: "Let me tell you this, having been on the show, I would not do it any other way. That guy is phenomenal, he's funny, he's hilarious. He's a really, really nice bloke and probably nothing like you'd expect him to be in real life.
"I know we haven't spent time in the UK for five years, but I know he's on telly quite a lot these days. Just respect that what you see on TV is a persona - who he really is is something different."
A Place in the Sun continues today at 3pm on Channel 4
