THE INBETWEENERS STAR JOE THOMAS GIVES PROMISING UPDATE ON NEW SERIES OF THE SHOW

The Inbetweeners star Joe Thomas has given a big update on the classic show's upcoming reboot. Last October, it was confirmed that the Channel 4 series was being rebooted, with the news announced by the show's creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris.

Now, speaking to The Sun, Thomas, who played Simon, has given some positive news on the reboot.

Thomas explained: "What has happened is that the people who wrote The Inbetweeners a while ago sold the rights to a larger entity, and they recently bought them back so they can make some more.

"I’m really excited. I don’t know what they’re doing. I just know they’re writing something, and I would really love to do it.

"That’s pretty much it. I hope there’s more because I’ve not got that much else to do! I do like The Inbetweeners as well!"

Thomas previously spoke about the reboot when it was first announced, sharing his excitement but also warning that the characters may be very different now.

"I think wisdom does not make a very good narrative. The Inbetweeners is full of characters who are delusional to a large extent.

"It's a show about delusion. Simon is naïve and romantic and thinks that he's going to have this love story, and Will is pompous, he's intellectually delusional. Neil's obviously stupid, and Jay's clearly delusional. He thinks that he's this kind of sex god when actually he's just this very vulnerable young man.

"When you get older, your delusions fall away, you look at life as it is," he continued. "It means you get into less stupid situations, I suppose, also the challenges get bigger, you can make larger mistakes when you get older."

The Inbetweeners first aired in 2008 on Channel 4, lasting for three seasons and spawning two films.

The reboot came about after Beesley and Iain Morris' production company, Fudge Park, secured a partnership with Banijay UK, which "paves the way for the return of the hit comedy title".

In a statement announcing the news the duo said: "Incredibly exciting to be plotting more adventures for our four favourite friends (ooh friends)."

Alongside Thomas the show also starred Simon Bird, Blake Harrison and James Buckley, who played Will, Neil and Jay, respectively.

Seasons 1-3 of The Inbetweeners are available to stream on 4.
