Attention, all Lily Allen fans. Do you want the good news, or the bad news? The bad news is the singer is stepping back from her smash-hit podcast Miss Me? which she hosts alongside Miquita Oliver. But the good news is, the internet is speculating it might be because she wants to spend time working on her next album. Eek!
In case you missed it, Lily and Miquita, who are childhood best friends, have hosted a podcast together since March 2024. In weekly episodes, they catch up over what they've been doing since they last spoke, as well as discuss TV shows they've been watching, relevant news stories and trending topics. In another second weekly episode, titled 'Listen Bitch', they take reader questions about a specific topic, from clubbing to gardening.
But sadly, their run is coming to an end, with the pair revealing that Lily is leaving, and will be replaced by a rotating cast of guests. In last week's episode, the 40-year-old said, "I’m going to be stepping away from the podcast to do some other things. But it’s not goodbye forever, it’s just goodbye for now while I go and do some new stuff for a little bit.
"I just have to focus on some other stuff for a little bit, and I’m very grateful for the experience, I’ve had so much fun, and I’ve really enjoyed our live shows, especially, at the beginning of the year."
Lily then added that it wasn't because 'anything was wrong', but in fact, "it’s quite the opposite. I’m doing some things that need more of my time, [because] it takes a lot of work putting the time and effort into this show… and I just don’t think that I will be able to give it 100 per cent with the other stuff that’s going on in my life at the moment."
Hmm - could it be new music? An album? A tour?! According to The Sun, Lily teamed up with Grammy-winning producer Greg Kurstin earlier this year to finish off her album, so the music comeback is truly on the cards.
Then, in this week's episode [released today], Miquita added, "I think it’s good that we’re gonna have some time away from doing this together, because I don’t think we’ll really understand what we’ve done here without having that."
"I’m really f***ing proud of you," she told Lily. "I want you go and have some adventures and focus on your s***, and I want to take Miss Me? to new places. When you do something you have to be brave to let it become other things, and it will always be something that was started with our friendship, but I think there are more places for it to go.”
"I like to think of it as a place where people reveal themselves, and no one is honest like they are on Miss Me?"
Miss Me? won't be the same without you, Lil, but we're excited to see where it goes!
