Soap star Gaynor Faye, best known for Emmerdale, Coronation Street, Fat Friends and The Syndicate, is taking the lead in the brand-new menopause comedy, Hot Flash.
Gaynor will play Geri, a 40-plus single mum who becomes an accidental entrepreneur, triumphing despite struggling with imposter syndrome and brutal menopause symptoms.
Filming is set to begin in East Yorkshire next month, where Hot Flash’s writer and producer Jan Birley lives.
“Getting Gaynor on board is an absolute dream come true - I can’t think of anyone better to play Geri!", she said.
"I’ve been gripped over the years by Gaynor’s portrayals of relatable women navigating real challenges and struggles - she’s the perfect person to bring our lead character to life. And with her fantastic reputation and huge fanbase, we’ll be able to help even more women feel visible, valued and less alone.”
Speaking of the film, Gaynor Faye, who is also the creative MD of Rollem Productions, which was founded by her mum, scriptwriter Kay Mellor, said: “After reading Jan Birley’s script, getting involved in Hot Flash was a no-brainer.
“It’s humorous, touching, and tackles menopause head-on, which is something few feature-length films do. It’s also a chance for me to channel my own experiences of midlife and show other women who are struggling that they’re not alone and should keep pursuing their dreams. Filming in my native Yorkshire is the icing on the cake.”
Hot Flash is not the first film to explore midlife and menopause in a Yorkshire setting. Following in the tradition of Riot Women-style storytelling, and in the spirit of writers like Sally Wainwright, it highlights the experiences of women navigating real-life challenges with warmth, humor, and honesty.
Further casting for the film is yet to be announced.
